ELLEN & SETH’S WEDDING, PEREGRINE WINERY, QUEENSTOWN

On the 27th of November 2010 I shot Ellen and Seth’s wedding at Peregrine Winery in Gibbston Valley, Queenstown.

I felt it was worth mentioning in my blog because this was my first time shooting at Peregrine Winery and as it turned out it was even better than I had imagined as a wedding venue.

In fact I was blown away by Peregrine and for this reason I would highly recommend it as an option to any couples looking to get married in the Queenstown area.

One of the things that Peregrine has that makes it so ideal as a venue is it’s roof – the swooping falcon’s (or Peregrine’s) wing, that gives the building’s architecture such a striking look.

Apart from looking great as a backdrop what this roof does is keep the sun and weather off you (and me) while allowing stunning panoramic views. So you get all the benefits of being inside - protection from the strong Otago sun, or even wind and rain – while being outside.

Not only this, but the roof is made of an opaque material that creates a soft diffuse light even on a hard-sun day at noon.

Now this may not mean much to you soon-to-be-married types out there, but it’s a photographer’s dream. It means nice soft light for flattering portrait photos and it also means as a photographer you don’t generally need to use flash – which means less distraction for you and your guests during the ceremony and more natural looking photos.

On top of this Peregrine offers a number of beautiful spots for bridal party photos, which means you don’t need to leave for a couple of hours of photos somewhere else and have your guests wondering where you’ve disappeared to!

Oh, and did I mention they do pretty good wine...?

Last but not least I would just like to say that no, I am not employed by Peregrine, nor (unfortunately) do I have shares in the business!

Finally, I got such a lovely thankyou email from Ellen and Seth that I have decided to post a copy of it here. If I ever wonder why I go through all the stress of being a wedding photographer it’s things like this that remind me why I love doing what I do.

“Hi Patrick,
I just wanted to quickly write to you to thank you so much for the amazing job you did with our wedding photos. They are absolutely amazing and i cant stop looking at them. I dont think there is a dry eye in the house when we play the dvd for people.
You have such an amazing talent, and Seth and i were so lucky to have had you at our wedding. You made the whole process so relaxed and comfortable for us, and we really appreciate that. Photos are the key to remembering that night, and we will always have beautiful memories becasue of you.
I think i have watched the dvd everyday since we have been home.
I will let you know if we will need more copies, but i have a burner here so will probably just do that myself. The disks will make great stocking stuffers. Ha!
Anyway, thanks again for everything. We will always be so greatful to you for our amazing photos.
Much thanks,
Ellen
